On a hot sunny day, the Sedlescombe Branch of the Royal British Legion celebrated Armed Forces Day in style with a party in the garden of Mrs Audrey Miller, a senior member of the Branch. About eighty people attended to enjoy a buffet and drinks. The Chairman of Sedlescombe Parish Council, Cllr Valerie Wright, attended as did Cllr David Hussey, the Mayor of Battle.
Guest of Honour was Lance Corporal Martyn Compton, who now lives with his wife in Sedlescombe. Martyn was badly injured in Afghanistan while serving in The Life Guards Household Cavalry Regiment four years ago. Branch President, Ernie Burgess, presented Martyn with an award on behalf of the Royal British Legion County HQ for his outstanding support to the Legion.
A local singing group called "Gin and Tonic" provided the entertainment and a few snatches of their songs can be heard on the video. The piper at the end is Hamilton Bracken. |
