Elections for the County Council and European Parliament. Full details can be viewed on the Rother District Council webpage.

Temporary Road Closures and Speed Restrictions. Notice has been received from the County Council that essential carriageway surface dressing will take place on various roads in East Sussex between 18 May and 31 July 2009. In Sedlescombe this will involve a temporary speed limits for up to two days within this period on the B2244 at Hawkhurst Road btween the junction with the B2165 Staplecross Road in a southerly direction to the entrance of the Village Hall, a distance of 3100 metres. Within the actual roadworks, the speed limit will be reduced to 10mph. Prior notice will be placed on each road affected in the county.

Policing Pledge. Sussex Police has reported that for it the Policing Pledge, which has been agreed nationally, is business as usual.

Wealden and Rother Rural Partnership. The WARR Partnership is a group of local people and organisations working for the regeneration of the rural area. It has secured funding of £2.4 million through the RDPE funding programme and can provide grants up to 2013. The main focus is to support the farming and forestry sectors but 25-30% will go towards helping to imrpove or maintain the living conditions and welfare of those living in rural areas, support village renewal and development and provide funding for tourism and our rural heritage.

Sussex Community Foundation Grassroots Grant. Small grants, between £250 and £5,000, are available for not for profit, voluntary or community groups that have an average income over the last three years of less than £30,000. Grants can be awarded for an existing project or service or for the costs of running an organisation. New projects can also be funded.

Revised Awards for All. The useful Awards for All grant scheme has been re-launched. Information on the new scheme can be accessed through the Awards for All website.

YouthBank East Sussex. Starting in March 2009, East Sussex YouthBank gives out grants to young people aged between 13 and 19 (and up to 25 with special needs) with good ideas that benefit them and others in their local areas.

Red Barn Field Nature Park. The Council is grateful to local resident, Colin Boyd, for the work he is doing at Red Barn Field nature Park. He is keeping the pond clear, has constructed a new scrape and is tackling the creeping thistle plants manually. Colin has also agreed to maintain a species list. Casual Vacancy. By the closing date for applications to fill the vacancy on the Sedlescombe Parish Council, the Parish Clerk had received seven applications. Councillors had the difficult task of choosing one from a list of excellent candidates. Finally, John Marland was chosen as Sedlescombe's newest councillor and will attend his first meeting on Tuesday 12 May.

Sedlescombe May Fayre, 02/05/09. With fine weather and a good crowd, the Fayre was a terrific success.
