EMERGENCY HELP. There was a good response to the Parish Council's request for people willing to help the community in times of emergency. Anyone who put their name forward will be contacted by the Council. A range of different practical skills have been identified which could be useful if, for example, we get severe snow conditions as last winter.
Some people are willing to help others at times when they are experiencing temporary difficulties - changing a light bulb, hanging a picture, form filling etc This type of help seems to fit in to a new project currently being set up by Rother Voluntary Action in our rural areas called a "Community Friends Scheme". These schemes will link those residents who are in particular need with volunteers willing to help. This could be of benefit to all the community - those recovering from illness or accidents for example. Of course lots of Sedlescombe residents already help others in this way but this would be on a more formal basis with helpers being covered by insurance and provided with support where needed. The helpers would also have contact numbers for professional social care providers if this appears to be necessary. Although this is a new type of scheme for this area, the Council's Emergency Committee has decided to ask Rother Voluntary Action to go about setting one up here. Further details will be provided to anyone who has already said they are willing to help and details will be posted on this website as they become available. |
