From: victoria.higgins@sussex.pnn.police.uk Sent: 17 June 2010 16:38 To: Sedlescombe@freezone.co.uk Subject: Rother District Commanders message. We are well into the new policing plan year and my aim is to continue year on year to continue to reduce crime in Rother. Im pleased to say that this year we have made a strong start ,already 9.2%( 89) fewer crimes. Just to remind you : 2008- 2009 Crime Down by 488 Crimes 2009- 2010 Crime Down by 666 Crimes What does this mean to you- It means fewer victims and safer neighbourhoods We recently asked Do you think crime is incresing or decreasing in your area ? 55% of people said they did not think there had been any change! This tells me we need to do more to let you know that Crime is Down and Rother is a safe place! So we will be delivering Neighbourhood Newsletters to keep you updated on what is going on where you live, and inform you on how you can get involved in influencing local Policing in your area. We listen to what you tell us and this month YOU SAID: · You were concerned by alcohol related Anti-Social Behaviour. · You wanted more Police patrols in the evenings. · You were concerned about Speeding. · You were concerned about Criminal Damage to vehicles. · You were concerned about Burglary. WE DID: · Arrested a youth responsible for carrying out a spate of criminal damage and engaging in Anti-Social Behaviour in Battle , he was charged to Court and given bail conditions which has seen a reduction in the number of calls to Police concerning Anti-Social Behaviour. · Licensing checks, Test Purchase Operations and Drug Tests in Licensed Premises have been carried out over the last few weeks. All premises checked passed which is good news! · Increased Patrols inAnti-Social Behaviour Hotspots in Bexhill, Battle and Rye · Speed checks- 11 being completed in the Rye area alone for the month of May. This has resulted in an increased number of tickets being issued for speeding and other driving offences, 20 tickets were issued for not wearing a seatbelt. · Arrested and prosecuted a young man for theft of and from Vehicles in Bexhill. Sentenced to a 6 month Referral Order and 18 months Community Service. On 16th June 4 people were arrested for causing damange to beach huts in Herbrand Walk, they have been bailed for further police enquiries but will be checked by officers if they are seen out and about committing further problems. · Increased Police patrols in Battle and Licensing checks on surrounding Pubs has reduced damage to vehicles in Lower Lake. · Lastweek Sgt Russell, Sgt Smith and PC Prime were called to a suspicious incident in Ticehurst. They located a vehicle and the female occupant was arrested and then also arrested her accomplice a man leaving an elderly persons home having stolen jewellery! This was a fantastic response by local officers who responded quickly to suspicious information and caught a burglar in progress! Keep cool this summer Burglary is reducing but be extra vigilant as summertime gets into full swing. While most people will welcome the longer evenings and (fingers crossed) warmer weather, it’s also a time of year when burglars seek to take advantage. Although the number of burglaries across Rother are falling there is always a rise during the summer months because of people leaving doors and windows open or insecure. Detective Insp Ian Williams said: “It sounds like simple advice but as the summer approaches we ask you to be security conscious around your home and garden. Please lock all doors and windows when going out or working in the back garden, put all garden tools away and lock your shed or garage. Don''t be careless with your wallet or purse, even around you home. Place it out of sight. “It only takes a few seconds for a burglar to make his mark, so take a few minutes to make your mark against them. Discouraging them from targeting your property will help ensure you enjoy your summer. "Please ask for our information sheet, which you can display in an appropriate place as a reminder. You can obtain one at your local police station or by calling 0845 60 70 999 and asking to speak to your local Crime Prevention Officer.” Because the best defence against any burglary is Prevention, Crime Prevention Officers will be distributing the ‘Keep Cool This Summer’ leaflets across Rother. The leaflets contain the following advice: • When you go out, lock all the doors and windows. • Don’t leave fanlight windows open. • When you leave a room unattended, close windows and doors – especially on the ground floor. • If you want to leave your windows open whilst you are asleep, fit window restrictors to stop people opening them to climb in. • Double check fences and boundaries to make sure they keep burglars out. • Secure garden tools and ladders in a locked shed or garage to prevent them being used to break in to your or a neighbour’s home. • Keep all wallets, purses, credit cards and car keys out of sight. • Consider laying gravel on your footpaths or driveway, which can deter burglars from approaching your property. • Outside security lighting as well as a visible burglar alarm helps deter burglars. For more advice on crime prevention visit www.sussex.police.uk or phone 0845 60 70 999 and ask for your local Crime Prevention Officer. In an emergency, or if you see a crime in progress, always dial 999. Update on Police Operations The summer months are challenging for us as crime seasonally increases as does Anti Social Behaviour and Speeding. This year we also must respond to The World Cup which potentially could increase Violent Crime linked to alcohol consumption and Domestic Violence. Operation Mulse- World Cup We have a robust policing plan on the days England are playing. Increased Officers on Patrol in Neighbourhoods and Towns, Domestic Violence Cars, visits to Licensed Premises.Last Saturday few problems occurred due to the increased police presence. Operation Collusion On 21st may 35 officers and staff from Kent and Sussex targetted cross-border criminals again between Ticehurst and Northiam. Arrests included a drink driver and possession of drugs were made. Several vehicle were taken off the road for no insurance and tickets were issued for other motoring offences. Operation Rye Ride Safe Continues in Rye to reduce speeding and collisions and provide Safety Advice. Rye Neighbourhood officers working with Roads Policng Department , engaging with motorists to provide safety advice and target offenders. Operation Radcott Police Officers and PCSOs work closely with Rother District Council during the summer months to ensure Camber is a safe place to live, work and visit. The population of Camber increases enourmously on a hot sunny day with thousands of visitors.Working together to deal with beach safety, parking, missing children etc.. Is essential.Last year the joint team saved the life of a young man with the help of East Sussex Fire and Rescue and reunited hundreds of missing children to their families over a 6 week period. Enjoy the summer months and please check our website for the latest panel meetings, street meetings and up coming events such as the Rother Race Action Forum which will be meeting on 9th August in Egerton Park Bexhill. The last meeting was a great success with fun activities, delicious food and the chance to meet people from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and representatives from Sussex Police, Rother District Council, Safer Rother Partnership, Amicus Horizon Housing, Churches Together and Rother Children’s Services.
