Dear All,
Please see below the crime updates for period covering Monday 11th October to Sunday 17th October 2010. I am sorry for the lateness in getting this to you.
As I am sure you can appreciate it is has been a very demanding and busy period for us, following the tragic death of Julian Gardner in Robertsbridge. My team are still involved in guarding the scene, while forensic examinations continue. This will continue for some days more.
Due to me teams involvement with this, they have been unable on occasions to perform their normal duties. Some meetings and panels have had to be cancelled as a result. I am very sorry for this, but I am sure you understand the reasons why.
The major crime branch continue to investigate the murder. You will be aware that a suspect was arrested over the weekend and has subsequently been bailed. This is a copy of the latest press release,
A 40-year-old man from Ashford in Kent, arrested on suspicion of the murder
of 53-year-old Julian Gardner at Bush Barn Farm, Robertsbridge, last Monday
(October 11), has been bailed.
The man was arrested in Ashford at 6am on Saturday (October 16) and taken to
Eastbourne Custody Centre for questioning. He has been bailed until November
25.
My team remain committed to reassuring the community, and giving as much support as possible. Thank you to the community in their support of the investigation and I will continue to update you with any further developments.
Please don’t forget, if you see any form of Anti-social driving (speeding, using a mobile phone whilst driving, regular drink drivers, disqualified drivers etc), please report it to us via our Op Crackdown system : http://www.operationcrackdown.org/.
I know that OP Crackdown has recently received some negative press in the local and national media. Here are the results in Sussex since its beginning,
OVERALL RESULTS SINCE AUGUST 2007

· 74 vehicles seized by the DVLA Enforcement Unit.
