Sedlescombe Parish Council invited the public to attend a meeting in the Brickwall Hotel on 18 May where Beccy Anderson from Rother District Council and Sara Winnington from East Sussex Healthy Homes gave a detailed presentation on ways to save energy and save money.
For most types of property, the easiest way to make your home warmer is through good insulation in the walls and roof where about 60% of the heat produced can escape. You could be eligible for a grant to cover all the costs of wall or loft insulation if you are aged over 60 or you are disabled/chronically ill or claiming tax credits.
Some grants are available for renewables and solar thermal technology.
Details can be found by clicking on the right hand side of this page where you will be linked to other website including the East Sussex Energy Partnership. This is a scheme you can trust because it is council-managed and council approval. Councils in East Sussex are working in partnership to provide government-funded grants to help homeowners save energy and cut costs.
Other energy-saving ideas for your home are:
- Draught proofing
- Floor insulation
- Filling gaps and cracks around floors and skirting
- Hot water tank and pipe insulation
- Installing double glazing
- Turning down your thermostat
- Fitting thermostatic radiator valves
- Replacing old boilers
- Buying energy-efficient white goods
- Sparing the dryer
- Washing full loads of clothes at 30 degrees
