Sedlescombe Stores

Queen's Head, Sedlescombe

Sedlescombe is a pleasant place to live. Despite losing many shops during the 20th century, you could say that residents have never been so well provided.

The shop/post office/off-licence supplies most day-to-day needs. It sells newspapers and confectionery, cigarettes, groceries, greetings cards, bread and hot pies, stationery, household goods, videos, reading glasses, chemist sundries and lottery tickets. Dry cleaning, laundry, shoe repairs and photo development can be left at the shop. Photocopying and send/receive fax facilities are available. Banking facilities are available and there is a cashpoint during shop hours.

Milk, as well as being sold in the shop, is delivered throughout the village. There is a Monday to Saturday post collection and delivery. The Garden Centre stocks a very wide variety of goods, even outdoor clothes and boots. New oak furniture and wines or fruit juices can be bought in the parish and there is a range of secondhand goods for sale in the Antiques Centre. There is a pub serving drinks and meals and an hotel with accommodation and a licensed restaurant.
Sedlescombe is one of the few local parishes to have a dispensing doctors' practice in the village and there is a monthly child welfare clinic held in the village hall. There is a modern school with dedicated staff and a up-to-date village hall with every facility. A library opens in the hall one afternoon a week and a mobile library visits the village every other week. There is a large sportsfield situated beside the river in a charming position with a good range of sports clubs. The indoor sports clubs use the hall regularly. All around is lovely countryside with lots of footpaths. Some of the footpaths have been made relatively-easy walking by the replacment of stiles with hand gates.  Sedlescombe Sportsfield entrance
Sedlescombe is also a caring community with groups and village charities ready and willing to help the aged, disabled, the young and others in need. The two Churches take an active part in the community. The Friendship Club aims to keep older people inclusive. It arranges regular Health Walks and the Extend Exercise Club. There is a Lift Scheme that provides transport to medical appointments. The Pestalozzi International Village offers regular opportunities to experience cultural activities from around the world, hosted by bright young people from the cultures concerned.
Valerie, Chris and Josie on the Village Green Sedlescombe residents are always ready to enjoy themselves with plenty of one-off and regular events to attend or clubs and societies to join.

A wide range of small businesses have been set up by local residents and other employment is available in various industrial sites around the village. Local towns and industrial estates also provide a range of jobs. Within 3 or so miles are the top two superstores, a large DIY store and the District General Hospital. In the other direction, the same distance away, is the mainline railway station with a reasonable train service to London. There is a two-hourly bus service to Hastings & Tunbridge Wells. Free bus passes are available to senior citizens from Rother District Council. On top of all this, Sedlescombe is just 7 miles from the south coast and within easy range of wonderful tourist attractions. What more could anyone want?
