Sedlescombe Parish Council is the Sole Trustee

Trust Purposes of the Charity Commission Scheme, Charity Number 305305:
To use 1.8 acres of land beside the river which make up the Public Playing Field and Recreation Ground for the provision and maintenance of a recreation ground or playing field for the benefit of the inhabitants of Sedlescombe and the neighbourhood without distinction of sex or of political, religious or other opinions. The Council may provide, or assist in the provision of, on the trust property, such facilities for physical exercise and training, lectures, classes and other forms of recreation and leisure-time occupation having the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants as the Council shall from time to time think fit. In addition, the Council can allow the land to be used for other purposes as long as the use does not substantially interfere with its recreational use.  Under certain circumstances, the Council may be able to sell the land.

A MEETING OF THE SEDLESCOMBE PUBLIC PLAYING FIELD & RECREATION GROUND TRUST IS TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY 23 OCTOBER 2007 IN COMMITTEE ROOM 2 OF SEDLESCOMBE VILLAGE HALL FOLLOWING THE EXTRAORDINARY MEETING OF THE PARISH COUNCIL WHICH BEGINS AT 19:15

T07/08.13 To receive apologies for absence.

T07/08.14 To authorise the Chairman to sign the Minutes of the Meeting of the Trust held on 01/05/07.

T07/08.15 Sedlescombe Playing Field & Recreation Ground (aka Riverside). The Annual Report which was approved at the Meeting of the Trust on 01/05/07 proposed applying for lottery funding through Rother District Council for

1. turning the tennis courts into a multi-play area,
2. providing equipment including swings suitable for children over 12 as well as appropriate safety surfacing,
3. providing sports coaching at the tennis courts.

Unfortunately, Rother District Council did not choose to include this project in its lottery funding application.

The tennis courts are currently being used free of charge by the general public. This appears to have been successful in that more use has been made of the courts and less damage has been done to the surrounding fences than when the gates were kept locked and use was fee-based. The courts seem to have been used mainly for playing tennis.

An application has recently been received for permission to use the courts for playing netball. Further details should be available at the meeting.

To consider as follows:

1. Whether permission should be given for free use of the tennis courts for playing netball?
2. Whether the idea of turning the tennis courts into a multi-play area should be pursued now that Rother has excluded the project from its lottery application? NB Funding could be available but it will be necessary to ensure full community consultation.
3. Whether the idea of providing swings for older children should be pursued?
4. Whether sports coaching at the tennis courts should be pursued?
