Sedlescombe Parish Council achieved "Quality Status" in July 2004, the sixty third out of the total 10,000 parishes in England and Wales. It remained the only Rother Quality parish for the next two and a half years.
Lord Lytton, President of the National Association of Local Councils visited the Village on 6 October 2004 to present Cllr Mrs Wright with Sedlescombe Parish Council's Quality Council Certificate. Lord Lytton spoke of Sedlescombe Parish Council's considerable achievement in being the first parish council in the Rother District area to receive the award and urged Sedlescombe to encourage other parish councils to apply also. The Clerk received a bottle of champagne from Trevor Leggo, Executive Officer of the Sussex Association of Local Councils for being the Clerk to the first parish council in Sussex with a population of less than 1500 to achieve the status.
