MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF SEDLESCOMBE PARISH COUNCIL HELD IN COMMITTEE ROOM 2 OF SEDLESCOMBE VILLAGE HALL ON TUESDAY 5 MAY 2009, 19:10 TO 19:15

C09/10.11 Apologies and reasons for absence. Cllr Wheatley (lack of babysitter).
C09/10.12 Interests. Declarations of existence and nature of councillor's interests, whether personal/prejudicial, in accordance with the adopted Code of Conduct 2007, with regard to items on the agenda. None declared.
C09/10.13 Public Participation Session. None.

Minutes. RESOLVED: That the Chairman of the Council is authorised to sign the Minutes of the Emergency Meeting of the Council held on 7 April 2009.
C09/10/15 Casual Vacancy. Bill Cameron resigned from the Parish Council on 11 March 2009 and the vacancy was advertised in accordance with Section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972. Fourteen days were allowed for ten electors to give notice of writing claiming an election but none was claimed.

 

In accordance with Rule 8(3) of the Local Elections (Parishes and Communities) Rules 1986, the Parish Council is now authorised to fill the vacancy as soon as practicable.

 

In accordance with the Parish Council's strategy for filling casual vacancies, applications were invited from qualified persons by 30/04/09 and seven applications were received by the due date.

 

Members had been provided with details from the following persons (in alphabetical order):

  • Sheila Betts
  • Roy Chapman
  • Nick Foord
  • Natalie Magorrian
  • John Marland
  • John Page
  • Frederick Pooke

The Chairman invited members to vote for one of the above-mentioned persons by raising their hands when his or her name was called. Voting continued in the recommended manner of removing the person with the least number of votes from the list until an overall majority of votes was given for John MARLAND of Lower Jacobs Farm, Brede Lane.

 

REOLVED: That John Marland is qualified to become a councillor for Sedlescombe parish and is duly co-opted to the Council for a period expiring after the elections in May 2011.
