VILLAGE OF THE YEAR FOR ALL ENGLAND COMMUNITY AWARD

For Sedlescombe, 2009 has been a year of great achievements. In April, it was the first Rother parish to receive Quality Council re-accreditation for the next four years.

At the same time, the Parish Council decided to enter the Village of the Year Competition, initially against other parishes in the county, and successfully came through to win the East Sussex Village of the Year Award and a cheque for £800. The county rounds included a detailed report about what the Village does to make it a good place in which to live. There was also a two-hour judges' visit to meet some of the people involved which was enjoyed by all. This part of the competition also needed a special project completed during the year and Sedlescombe was able to show the importance of the co-operation of many who successfully raised funds to build a super new sports pavilion for community use.

The county win moved the Village on to the southern region competition when, after a further visit of more judges, Sedlescombe was successful in winning the coveted Southern Region Community Award.

The final step was against all other regions of the country when the judges met to discuss their regional winners and chose to present Sedlescombe with the All England Community Village of the Year Award and a cheque for £500. The whole community is justly proud of its success.
