P09/10.127 Planning Applications
127.1

RR/2010/158/P Brickwall Hotel - land to the front of, The Street, Sedlescombe (NB note this is at the Brickwall Hotel's back entrance). Demolition of outbuilding and construction of 3 No. two-bedroom homes and associated parking.
RESOLVED: That the Parish Council objects to this application for the following reasons:

  1. Contrary to Policy GD1(iii) - with only one parking space for each of the three properties, additional parking will be forced into The Street, where there is already pressure for parking by existing house owners at a narrow part of the road with limited visibility.
  2. Contrary to Policy GD1(iv) - would detract from the appearance of the locality where nearby properties on that side of the road are single storey.

The Clerk read a letter from the County Archaeologist to Rother Planning in which he had written that the outbuilding to be demolished is a surviving element of the farm buildings which formerly occupied this site north of Brickwall House. Farm buildings, including this structure, are shown on the Tithe map and early OS maps of the early to mid-19th century, but may be considerably older in date. This site will contain evidence of the use of this area north of Brickwall House as the main farmstead from at least the post-medieval period. If the building cannot be saved as apart of the historic fabric of Sedlescombe, then it will at least be necessary to ensure that a full record is made before it is destroyed. The Archaeologist has asked for a programme of archaeological works.

127.2

RR/2009/3130/A - 2 non-illuminated signs on A21 to advertise existence of Brickwall Hotel in Sedlescombe Village. Cllrs Wright and Rand declared their personal interests in this item by virtue of the help they have been providing to the Brickwall Hotel owner regarding these advertising signs. They remained in the meeting.

Cllr Wright reported that she had accompanied Mr Pollio of the Brickwall Hotel to a meeting with Rother Chief Planning Officer, Mr Hickling, and Planning Officer Sarah Shepherd regarding this application. Although Cllr Wright had pressed for signs advertising various additional village businesses, the planners said that the signs had to have as few words and symbols as possible and that they should just advertise The Brickwall Hotel. An amended location plan for the Brickwall Hotel signs has been submitted. The fight for the other signs would have to continue.

127.3 RR/2010/137/L The Pumphouse, Village Green, Sedlescombe. Removal of existing cage and temporary removal of pump, refurbishment of pump etc. As this application had been submitted by Sedlescombe Parish Council, no comment could be made.
