The first meeting of the Parking & Traffic Advisory Committee of Sedlescombe Parish Council will be held on Tuesday 3 July in Committee Room 2 of the Village Hall at 18:00

Matters to note regarding advisory committees of parish councils.

  1. Section 102(4) of the Local Government Act 1972 states:
    "A local authority may appoint a committee..... to advise the appointing authority....... on any matter relating to the discharge of their functions, and any suich committee may consist of such persons (whether members of the appointing authority or not) appointed for such term as may be determined by the appointing authority.
  2. Non-councillors appointed to an advisory committee pursuant to section 102(4) do not have to satisfy the qualification requirements of the Local Government Act 1972. However, if any person is disqualified (ie a paid officer, a bankrupt, found guilty of corrupt or illegal practices etc) from being a councillor he/she is unable to be a member of any committee.
  3. An advisory committee may ADVISE a local authority but HAS NO POWER TO DISCHARGE ANY FUNCTIONS.
  4. Advisory committees are sometimes called Working Parties, Groups or Panels.

Name and terms of reference of this Committee.

  1. To RECOMMEND: That the Committee is called The Parking and Traffic Advisory Committee.
  2. The Council agreed basic terms of reference in May 2012. Detailed terms of reference prepared by Cllr Vine-Hall to be considered. To RECOMMEND: That revised terms of reference are adopted for The Parking and Advisory Committee.
A12/13.5 Membership of the Committee. To recommend to the Council who should serve as non-councillors on the Committee.
A12/13.6 Correspondence. To note that all correspondence should be channelled through the Parish Clerk.
